Pros
Good company - Parrots are amazing company providing you can cope with the cons of keeping them
Long life - average example, Budgie - 12 years. Cockatiel - 19 years. Conure/Senegal 20 - 30 years. Grey/Cockatoo/Macaw 50 - 70 years
Intelligent - Parrots in general have the interlect of a 3 - 5 year old child.
Cons
Long life - What are you going to do in future, should you live them out.
Noisey - They ae all are individuals but can be very noisey. (especially when your favorite programme is on!)
Destructive - again all are individuals but can be very destructive, you can forget having a perfect home.
Can be very messy - They take great pleasure in flicking food especially as youve just hoovered!
Veterinary care can be very expensive, birds are classed as an exotic animal. Their are not many avian veterinarians in the area. (go to contact nos at the top of the page for avian vets around wirral area)
Cages, toys, feeding etc generally not cheap. The bigger the bird the higher the price goes up.
Intelligent - Great when things are going well but when youve had enough of them and they get passed on imagine the distress a 3 - 5 year old child would go through being taken away from their family and passed around, most parrots go through the same.
THEY FLY AND CHEW! Its amazing how many people come in wanting their bird clipped. I ask them why - Their reply is it flies! It chews! I reply welcome to the joys of parrots. Imagine having your legs cut off, Not much difference, if you dont like it flying then get a hamster. Clipping can also cause plucking and depression.
Dont expect them to talk, they dont always.
PEOPLE DONT LOOK INTO GETTING THESE ANIMALS, GET THEM THEN CANT COPE AND THEY END UP UNWANTED AND IN RESCUES
